Tumacacori Mission is a ruin, but a beautiful, evocative ruin, left from Spanish colonial days of the 1700's, one of a chain of sanctuaries built by Father Kino and his monks.

The mission was several miles from the fort, and was attacked by Apaches many times. Local herding/agricultural tribal Dine peoples helped the Spaniards build the sanctuary of adobe -- whiting the roof in lime that was fired on the grounds. Then they attended services.
