High on Mt. Lemmon is a scenic stop called Windy Point. Dotted with hoodoos and manzanita bushes with red branches and deep blue green leaves, Windy Point earns its name. The boulder outcrop that juts out over the canyons provides a rugged and nearly flat plateau to set up your pochade and canvas. One vista is of the valley, the grid of the city cutting the ground and glinting with metal and glass. But looking East, one sees a marching ladder of ridges descending from the Santa Catalinas and the high peaks of the mountains behind them.

On the day I started this the sky was streaked with the high clouds of fall, the air was chilyl and a strong wind had made a bluish haze of dust that nearly hid the peaks from view.
